Refund Policy

Last updated: March 2026

1. Overview

ProfitChess is a skill-based gaming platform. Entry fees are paid voluntarily to participate in competitive chess games. Because game outcomes are determined by player skill, entry fees are generally non-refundable once a game begins. This policy outlines the specific circumstances under which refunds are issued.

2. Automatic Refunds

Refunds are issued automatically in the following cases — no support request needed:

  • Game abort — If neither player has made a move when one player disconnects or the game is cancelled within the first 15 seconds, both players receive a full refund of their entry fee.
  • Draw — In the event of a draw (stalemate, insufficient material, 50-move rule, threefold repetition, or mutual agreement), both players receive a full refund of their entry fee.
  • Technical error — If a game fails to complete due to a server-side technical error attributable to ProfitChess (not a player's internet connection), both players receive a full refund.
  • Abandoned game — If the automatic cleanup system detects no moves for more than 12 minutes during an active game, the game is closed and both players are refunded.

3. Anti-Cheat Refunds

If a player is confirmed to have used engine assistance or other prohibited tools during a paid game, the affected opponent may be eligible for a refund from the Anti-Cheat Fund. To request a review:

  • Submit an appeal through Settings → Support → Game Issue
  • Include the game ID and a description of the suspicious behavior
  • Our anti-cheat team will review within 72 hours
  • If cheating is confirmed, the refund is processed to your PCP balance

4. PCP Purchase Refunds

Purchases of PCP (ProfitChess Points) are generally non-refundable once the funds have been used in any game or tournament. Refunds of unused purchased funds may be requested in the following circumstances:

  • You purchased funds and have not participated in any games
  • You are requesting account closure and have an unused balance
  • A duplicate charge occurred due to a payment processor error

Purchase refund requests must be submitted within 30 days of the original deposit. Processing fees charged by Stripe or by PayPal/bank on withdrawals are non-refundable.

5. Non-Refundable Items

  • Entry fees for completed games where the outcome was a legitimate win/loss
  • Entry fees for games lost due to timeout (running out of time)
  • Entry fees for games where you disconnected and did not reconnect
  • Entry fees for games you resigned
  • Platform fees (9% of pot) deducted from winnings
  • PayPal processing fees on withdrawals

6. How to Request a Refund

For refund requests not covered by automatic processing:

  1. Log in to your ProfitChess account
  2. Go to Settings → Support → Create Ticket
  3. Select "Payment Issue" as the category
  4. Include the transaction ID, game ID (if applicable), and reason for the request
  5. Our support team will respond within 5 business days

7. Refund Processing Time

Approved refunds are credited to your PCP balance immediately. If you request a withdrawal of refunded funds via PayPal or bank transfer, standard withdrawal processing times apply (24–48 hours). We do not issue refunds directly to the original payment card.
